Clik here to view.Greetings from Asheville, where good music is always on the turntable. Today’s Single Of The Day is a hit from hall of famer Jean Shepard. 1966 turned out to be a pretty nice year for Jean. After a slow 1965, that saw only two Country 40 singles, both of which barely made it, this year turned out to be a much stronger showing for the veteran songstress, as she finished the year with three hits. In the Spring, she flirted with the top 10 with “Many Happy Hangovers To You”, a record that ultimately peaked at thirteen. Just as it was peaking, her duet with Ray Pillow, “I’ll Take The Dog”, was making it’s debut, and would peak at nine, during the Summer, just as her next solo effort as taking flight. ”If Teardrops were Silver”, today’s Single Of The Day, is Jean Shepard at her finest. The single debuted in July and would reach the top ten, by Fall, peaking at ten. The single would be her eighth top ten single and her biggest solo hit of the latter part of the decade.

Saving vinyl, one record at a time.
